Horst Köhler is the Federal President since being elected in 2004. He is the head of the state and represents the Federal Republic of Germany both at home and abroad.
The Bundestag is Germany's parliament. It is the center of the country’s political life and it is the supreme democratic organ of state. The Bundestag also elects the Federal Chancellor. Since 1999, its seat is at the Reichstag Building in Berlin.
